Job Summary
The Economics & Business Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering engaging, high-quality lessons in Economics and Business Studies to secondary students. The teacher will support students in developing a strong understanding of economic principles, business concepts, analytical skills, and their application to real-world situations.
The successful candidate will create a positive and inclusive learning environment, monitor student progress, and contribute actively to the academic and co-curricular life of Sekolah Sri UCSI, Subang Jaya.
Key Responsibilities:
Teaching & Learning:
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging Economics and Business Studies lessons in accordance with the school's curriculum and academic standards.
- Develop students' understanding of key economic and business concepts, theories, terminology, and applications.
- Use a variety of teaching strategies and learning resources to meet the needs of students with different abilities and learning styles.
- Incorporate real-world examples, current economic and business issues, case studies, and practical activities into lessons.
- Encourage students to develop critical thinking, problem-solving, research, communication, and analytical skills.
- Integrate appropriate technology and digital resources to enhance teaching and learning.
- Prepare students effectively for internal and external examinations, where applicable.
Assessment & Student Progress:
- Design and administer appropriate assessments, assignments, projects, quizzes, and examinations.
- Mark and provide timely, constructive feedback on students' work.
- Monitor and evaluate student progress and maintain accurate academic records.
- Identify students who require additional academic support and implement appropriate intervention strategies.
- Provide appropriate challenge and extension activities for high-achieving students.
Student Development & Pastoral Care:
- Establish positive relationships with students and maintain a safe, respectful, and supportive classroom environment.
- Support students' academic, social, emotional, and personal development.
- Act as a form tutor or undertake pastoral responsibilities when assigned.
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress and concerns.
- Encourage students to demonstrate responsibility, independence, resilience, and respect for others.
Curriculum & Departmental Responsibilities:
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and the Head of Department to develop and improve the Economics and Business curriculum.
- Participate in curriculum planning, departmental meetings, moderation, and review activities.
- Contribute to the development of teaching resources, schemes of work, assessments, and examination preparation materials.
- Stay updated on developments in Economics, Business Studies, education, and relevant curriculum requirements.
- Share good teaching practices and resources with colleagues.
Co-Curricular & School Activities:
- Participate actively in school events, co-curricular activities, educational trips, competitions, and enrichment programmes.
- Support or lead Economics, Business, Entrepreneurship, Investment, or related student clubs and activities where required.
- Contribute to school-wide initiatives and community activities.
- Undertake duties and responsibilities assigned by the Head of Department or Principal.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Economics, Business, Business Studies, Finance, Accounting, Education, or a related field.
- A recognised teaching qualification such as PGCE, PGDE, teaching certification, or equivalent is preferred.
- Previous teaching experience at secondary school level is preferred.
- Experience teaching IGCSE / Cambridge Economics and/or Business Studies would be an advantage.
- Strong knowledge of Economics and Business Studies subject content and examination requirements.
- Fresh graduates with relevant qualifications and a strong interest in teaching may also be considered.
